Woodland Wildflower Garden Expanded (15 Plants)
Layered woodland planting · Spring through fall interest · Structural depth
Available June 6 & June 13 · Pickup at the Montclair Farmers Market (Walnut Street Station)
This expanded woodland planting builds on the softness and seasonal bloom of the Woodland Wildflower Garden while adding greater height, texture, and ecological richness. Layered with spring wildflowers, evergreen structure, and gentle summer bloom, the design creates a naturalistic woodland garden that feels calm, cohesive, and quietly alive beneath trees and along shaded edges.
As with all Hope Grows gardens, this planting was designed for Northern New Jersey landscapes — helping shaded spaces evolve into layered habitat gardens that grow fuller and more connected over time.

What this garden needs
- Sun: Part shade to full shade
- Soil: Average to moist
- Care: Regular watering during the first growing season to help roots establish
Why we love this garden
- Wild Blue Phlox forms a soft ground layer and brings fresh spring color
- Christmas Fern provides evergreen structure and year-round stability
- White Turtlehead adds upright form and late-season bloom
- Goat's Beard commands the back of the planting with dramatic 4–6 ft plumes of white flowers in late spring
- Hoary Skullcap extends bloom into mid to late summer
Why wildlife loves this garden
- Continuous nectar from spring through early fall
- Host plants for three specialist caterpillars: the Baltimore Checkerspot — a Special Concern butterfly in New Jersey — depends on White Turtlehead; the Dusky Azure lays its eggs on Goat's Beard; and the Skullcap Skeletonizer feeds exclusively on Hoary Skullcap.
- Shelter created by evergreen foliage and layered plant structure
