Why we love it
- Striking blue-green foliage in spring and summer shifts to rich reds and oranges in fall, aging to soft brown in winter
- Fluffy silver seed heads emerge in fall and last through winter extending the plant’s beauty
- Its fine texture and upright form make bold flowering plants around it stand out
Why wildlife loves it
- Queen bumble bees nest at the base where they safely overwinter
- Host plant for many skipper butterflies, including Cobweb, Leonard’s, and Dusted Skippers
- Small songbirds eat the seeds
Fun to see
- Birds pulling at the dry blades in spring to line their nests
What to expect at pickup
Ground covers and ferns are sold as young, well rooted plugs. Shrubs are sold in 1 gallon containers.
Because this is a fall collection, some plants may have limited foliage or may be beginning to enter dormancy at pickup. This is a normal seasonal change. Their roots are healthy and ready to establish after planting.
