Why we love it
-
White to pink flower clusters bloom late in the season, when many other shrubs have finished flowering
-
Its compact, multi-stemmed form works well in borders, naturalized plantings, and low hedges
-
Spreads gradually by suckers, helping stabilize soil and create a fuller planting
Why wildlife loves it
-
Late-season flowers provide nectar and pollen for bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects
-
Serves as a larval host plant for the Spring Azure butterfly
-
Songbirds eat the seeds from the brown capsules that form in fall
Fun to see
The flowers open gradually from the top downward, extending the show and the pollinator activity over several weeks.
