Why we love it
-
Cheerful yellow flowers brighten the garden early in spring
-
Creeping rhizomes form a dense groundcover that helps suppress weeds and protect open soil
-
Thrives beneath trees and shrubs and in moist areas where many ground covers struggle
Why wildlife loves it
-
Early flowers provide nectar and pollen when relatively few other plants are blooming
-
Supports Andrena gardineri, a specialist mining bee that gathers pollen from ragworts
-
Also attracts little carpenter bees, sweat bees, butterflies, and beneficial flies
Fun to see
The leafy rosettes remain green through much of winter before sending up tall yellow flowers in spring.
What to expect at pickup
Ground covers and ferns are sold as young, well rooted plugs. Shrubs are sold in 1 gallon containers.
Because this is a fall collection, some plants may have limited foliage or may be beginning to enter dormancy at pickup. This is a normal seasonal change. Their roots are healthy and ready to establish after planting.
