Why we love it
-
A dense, multi-stemmed shrub that works beautifully as a hedge, privacy screen, or large-scale foundation planting
-
White spring flowers, blue-black fruit, and colorful fall foliage provide interest across several seasons
-
Develops suckers over time, creating a full, layered planting with excellent screening value
Why wildlife loves it
-
Fruit provides high fat food for songbirds and other wildlife
-
Serves as a larval host plant for Spring Azure butterflies and hummingbird clearwing moths
-
Spring flowers provide nectar and pollen for native bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects
-
Dense branching offers shelter and nesting cover for birds
Fun to see
Watch the fruit clusters as they ripen, changing from green to blue and finally deep blue-black.
A note about berries
For the best fruit production, plant at least two genetically distinct Arrowwood Viburnums that bloom at the same time. A single shrub may flower beautifully but produce few or no berries without a compatible pollination partner growing nearby. These Arrowwood Viburnums are grown from seed, so each plant is genetically distinct.
What to expect at pickup
Ground covers and ferns are sold as young, well rooted plugs. Shrubs are sold in 1 gallon containers.
Because this is a fall collection, some plants may have limited foliage or may be beginning to enter dormancy at pickup. This is a normal seasonal change. Their roots are healthy and ready to establish after planting.
