Bring height, movement, and presence to sunny garden spaces with this architectural 3 x 6 foot planting designed for suburban landscapes. Layering tall spires, airy grasses, and abundant summer bloom, the garden creates a beautifully composed backdrop that supports pollinators and seasonal life.

Like all Hope Grows gardens, this planting was designed to thrive in Northern New Jersey conditions — helping you confidently add vertical interest to borders, fence lines, and sunny beds.

What's included

  • 9 native plants
    • 3 × Culver's Root (Veronicastrum virginicum)
    • 3 × Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum)
    • 3 × Coastal Plain Joe-Pye Weed (Eutrochium dubium)
    • Please note: This kit includes Eutrochium maculatum (Spotted Joe-Pye Weed) in place of Eutrochium dubium (Coastal Joe-Pye Weed). Both are native Joe-Pye Weeds with excellent pollinator value. E. maculatum typically grows 4–7 feet tall in average garden conditions — slightly taller than E. dubium but equally beautiful and wildlife-friendly.
  • A professionally designed planting layout showing spacing and placement
  • A rendered garden image to help you visualize the finished planting
  • Individual plant cards with growing conditions and ecological notes

Optional add-on:
A life-size 9-plant roll-out planting template for step-by-step guidance.

What this garden needs

  • Sun: Full sun to part sun
  • Soil: Moist to average (adaptable)
  • Care: Regular watering during the first growing season to help roots establish

Why we love this garden

  • Anchored by Culver's Root, bringing tall sculptural white flower spikes and refined vertical presence
  • Switchgrass creates movement and structure, with cloud-like flowers and persistent seed heads
  • Joe-Pye Weed is a late-summer spectacle—on warm days the blooms can be alive with monarchs, swallowtails, and bumblebees all at once
  • Layered heights create a planting that feels dynamic yet grounded

Why wildlife loves this garden

  • Abundant nectar for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators
  • Switchgrass alone hosts 27 species of Lepidoptera, including the Delaware Skipper and Hobomok Skipper
  • Culver's Root hosts its own specialist, the Culver's Root Borer Moth
  • Seeds that provide food for birds and small mammals
