Why we love it

  • Cheerful pink flower clusters add a beautiful pop of color in mid summer
  • Upright, architectural form gives the plant strong presence without flopping
  • Blooms for about a month, offering sustained color during peak summer

Why wildlife loves it

  • Important nectar source for a wide range of pollinators
  • Host plant for monarch butterflies
  • Birds prize the soft, water-resistant seed silk and fibrous stems as nesting material — ideal for lining nests

Fun to See

  • Look for tiny comma-shaped holes in the leaves—evidence of monarch caterpillars beginning their life. See if a caterpillar is on the underside of the leaf
